HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (13-11, 5-6 SBC) delivered a commanding 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-14) sweep of Old Dominion on Friday at the Cam Henderson Center.
Â
"Really proud of our team's effort tonight," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout said. "We did a great job being aggressive from the service line, this paid off for us defensively to set up our blocking plan nicely. I felt like it was a true team win. Everyone trusting one another offensively; both Bella and Maya distributed the ball well. I thought both Kenzie and Mo (Caba) did a wonderful job executing the double libero role. Now, it's about being consistent, because in this league it's a dog fight every night.
Â
Emma Barnett paced the Herd with 12 kills on .462 hitting, seven digs, one ace and two assists. Beatrice Ciccarelli added 10 kills, four blocks and a .562 hitting percentage. Logan Henderson contributed nine kills, three blocks and two digs. Audrey Geer chipped in seven kills, two aces and six digs.
Â
A tightly contested opening set was tied at 19 before the Herd closed on a strong 6-1 run. Barnett delivered three kills in the last five points to push Marshall to a 25-20 win.
Â
Old Dominion drew even at 20 in the second set before Beatrice Ciccarelli took control with a block and a kill, fueling a decisive 3-0 surge. Marshall secured the frame, 25-21.
Â
Marshall ripped off a 7-1 run midway through the third set, turning a slim lead into a 20-12 advantage. Logan Henderson, Audrey Geer and Ciccarelli each recorded key kills before Henderson sealed the match, 25-14.
Â
Marshall finished with a .375 team hitting percentage and just eight attack errors while posting seven team blocks and three aces. The Herd held Old Dominion to a .193 hitting mark and under 15 points in the final set.
