HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (14-11, 6-6 SBC) capped off the weekend with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) sweep of Old Dominion on Saturday.
"Great weekend, I'm really proud of how we executed our game plan consistently," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout said. "Full team win, so many bright spots offensively. Really proud of both Audrey and Emma. They were dominant on front and back row which really helped us crucial moments and down the stretch. It was an electric atmosphere and always a good day when our community shows up and shows out. It's even better that we are back at home next weekend."
Emma Barnett fueled the Herd with 10 kills on .526 hitting and four service aces, providing steady offense and pressure from the line. Beatrice Ciccarelli delivered eight kills and four blocks, anchoring the net. Audrey Geer added eight kills and three aces, while Logan Henderson chipped in four kills and four blocks.
The opening set was tightly contested, with both teams even at 23-all late before Marshall answered with back-to-back points to secure the 25-23 win. Timely serving and block touches made the difference.
Deadlocked at 10-10 in the second frame, Marshall sparked a 7-1 surge behind aggressive serving to create separation, closing the set 25-17.
In the third, Marshall asserted control early and never let up, extending a late lead with a 5-0 finishing run that included a Barnett kill and two aces, sealing the sweep 25-13.
The Herd hit .239 as a team, limited Old Dominion to .106, and registered 10 blocks to the Monarchs' four. Marshall's 11 service aces were more than double the visitors' total
