Marshall Volleyball Falls to App State in Weekend Opener

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (14-11, 6-6 SBC) dropped its weekend opening contest (25-15, 25-21, 25-21) to App State on Thursday afternoon in the Cam Henderson Center.
"We obviously did not perform today, we got outplayed," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout said. "We were out-effort by App State, overall, and could not get in an offensive groove."
Emma Barnett paced the Herd with 11 kills on .250 hitting and added five digs, leading all Marshall players in points and offensive production. Logan Henderson contributed eight kills on an efficient .438 hitting percentage and tallied two blocks. Audrey Geer chipped in six kills and one ace, while Annika Castellanos anchored the back row with a team-high eight digs.
App State controlled the opening set, taking a 10-9 lead and pulling away for a 25-15 win.
In set two, the Herd responded trading points and holding even at 20-20 after a kill from Barnett. With the score tied at 21-21, the Mountaineers closed the frame on a 4-0 run to take it 25-21.
Set three was tightly contested as the teams battled through 12 ties and six lead changes. MU was even at 21-21, but App State pulled away late, sealing the match with another 25-21 result.

Marshall is set for its home finale on Friday against App State for Senior Day.
