HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (15-12, 7-7 SBC) closed its home schedule with a dramatic 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 25-19, 26-24) win over App State on Senior Day to seal a spot in the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Â
Senior Day honorees Elli Barry, Morgan Caba, Izzy Collier and Bella Thompson were recognized after the match in a postgame ceremony.
Â
"I'm proud of this group," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout said. "One with how we responded from yesterday. We came in, they put their heads down. We watched film. We came in and had an awesome practice. We just kept emphasizing how important this group of four seniors were. The foundation that they've laid, leadership and character with how they are as people. We just said, hey let's live in the moment today."
Â
Beatrice Ciccarelli led the way with 14.5 points, recording seven kills, six aces, two blocks and four digs. Emma Barnett posted a double-double of 11 kills and 12 digs, while Logan Henderson matched the team-high with 11 kills. Audrey Geer added seven kills and 12 digs.
Â
App State jumped out early and never trailed in the first set, handing Marshall a 25-14 setback to open play.
Â
A crucial 6-2 mid-set run, fueled by aggressive serving in the second, turned the tide as the Herd answered with a 25-20 win to even the match, 1-1.
Â
Marshall built an early lead in the third and maintained control, closing out a 25-19 frame with contributions from multiple attackers to jump to a 2-1 advantage.
Â
Late in the fourth Marshall rattled off four straight points, including staving off a pair of set points, capped by Henderson's kill and an App State error, to secure the match 26-24 in a tense finish.
Â
The Herd out-served App State with eight aces and out-dug the visitors 68-64, while three Marshall players finished with double-digit kills. The home crowd energized the squad through every rally, helping close the season at Cam Henderson Center on a high note.
