FOLEY, Ala. – Marshall (8-5-4) saw its Sun Belt Conference tournament run end in a hard-fought 1-0 loss to No. 3 seed ULM on Monday afternoon at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
The decisive moment came in the 23rd minute when ULM's Ava Goodman finished a spectacular solo effort, giving the Warhawks a 1-0 advantage. The Herd trailed for more than 67 minutes and outshot and outpossessed the SBC regular season champions, but were unable to find an equalizer.
Emma Durand made two saves to keep Marshall within striking distance, and field players inducing Madison Townes and Marcella Alves pushed forward in search of an equalizer. Townes led the Herd with three shots, while Alves registered two shots, including one on target.
Marshall generated its best attacking sequence late in the match, earning back-to-back corners in the 80th minute. In the 87th minute, Bailey Fisher forced a save from ULM goalkeeper Jen Handy, but the Warhawks preserved their lead.
Despite the loss, Marshall saw 2025 as a resurgent season. The Herd's season ends at 8-5-4, its most wins in a decade. MU had four All-Sun Belt selections and three weekly award winners, both program-bests since 2015 as well.
