Herd Women’s Basketball Smothers NKU, 68-53 for Second Home Win

11/6/2025 8:46:00 PM | Women's Basketball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Women's Basketball (2-0) won its second in a row to begin the season with a 68-53 victory over Northern Kentucky Thursday night. After forcing 26 turnovers in the season opener Monday, Coach Juli Fulks' Herd had an additional 20 takeaways against the Norse Thursday.

"Well I thought that was another really good defensive effort," Coach Fulks said. "We looked up and [NKU had] 39 at the end of the 3rd quarter. If we can keep defending like that and rebounding, I think the pressure is going to keep challenging [opponents]. I thought there was a lot of good tonight and the defense is really driving everything."

The Herd seized control with an explosive 25 point opening quarter and never looked back, also using stifling defense and a deep, balanced rotation to avenge last season's close loss to the Norse.

Timaya Lewis-Eutsey led the charge for Marshall, scoring a game-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting while adding four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Freshman Olivia Olson continued her impressive start to the season, pouring in 14 points with three made 3-pointers, including a crucial triple in the fourth quarter that stretched the margin to 19. Olson finished with a team-best plus-25 rating in 24 minutes of action.

Senior guard Peyton Ilderton knocked down three second-half 3-pointers to tally nine points. The Logan native and Blessing King each led the way with four steals, helping Marshall pull away after the break. Off the bench, Timberlynn Yeast brought energy with eight points and five rebounds in 25 minutes.

Marshall's defense was the difference all night, forcing the 20 Norse turnovers and converting them into 23 points. The Herd also dominated the glass with a 40-36 rebounding advantage.
