Marshall Women’s Hoops Begins New Year with First SBC Road Trip of Season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After a strong finish to 2025 - and start of Sun Belt Conference play - Marshall Women's Basketball begins 2026 at the beach at Coastal Carolina for a 3:30 p.m. New Year's Day tip.

The Herd will then travel to Boone on Saturday, Jan. 3 to face off with App State after opening league play against the Mountaineers on Dec. 17.

COACH JULI FULKS

  • Head Coach Juli Fulks is in year two leading Marshall's Women's Basketball program. Fulks came to the Herd with a prestigious 400 wins while leading Transylvania to the 2022-23 DIII National Championship. 
  • Fulks and the Herd set a program record with four postseason wins in its run during the 2025 Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship. 

PREGAME NOTES

  • Marshall ended 2025 with a perfect 6-0 month of December with SBC-opening victories over App State and JMU. The overtime win over JMU snapped a 21-game conference regular season winning streak for the Dukes.
  • Senior Timaya Lewis-Eutsey and freshman Olivia Olson each scored 20+ in the Herd's signature victory on Dec. 20. Lewis-Eutsey earned SBC Player of the Week for the second time this season following her explosive start to league play. 
  • The Herd is ranked 10th in the nation, shooting 80% from the free throw line. Coach Fulks' side has four games this season where it has shot perfect from the line, with two of those games coming with at least 12 attempts.
  • Marshall is seeking its best 15-game start to a season since 2011-12.

ABOUT THE CHANTICLEERS

  • Coastal Carolina is 7-7 with an 0-2 league record, falling to JMU and Georgia State at home by a combined eight points. 
  • Coach Kevin Pederson won his 500th career game as a head coach Monday evening in the team's non-conference victory over Columbia College. 
  • Marshall leads the all-time series, 7-5, including a 4-3 advantage since the 2022-23 season. The Chanticleers won both contests last season.

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS

  • App State fell to 0-2 in league play, dropping a 67-54 decision at Georgia Southern following Marshall's 75-62 win in Huntington Dec. 17. The Mountaineers will not play a league contest until its matchup with Marshall Saturday. 
  • Dasia Mitchell leads the team with 11.2 PPG. Senior Emma Smith scored a season-high 19 points when the Herd and Mountaineers played to open league play. 
  • The Herd leads the all-time series, 27-26. Saturday will be the final regular season matchup between the two sides in 2025-26.
