NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season, Timaya Lewis-Eutsey has been voted the Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday. The award culminates a standout week after her first nod came on Nov. 25.
Lewis-Eutsey scored 31 and 20 points in Marshall's two victories to open SBC play last week. The senior transfer from VCU scored a career-high with 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting in the Herd's win over App State Wednesday. In the team's win over JMU Saturday, Lewis-Eutsey had a game-high seven assists and a team-high four steals in addition to her third-consecutive 20+ point performance. 16 of Lewis-Eutsey's 20 points came in the second half and overtime.
Timaya has now scored double figures in 10 of Marshall's 14 contests. She is third in the league with 16.4 PPG.
The New Jersey native also leads a Marshall side which tops the league in scoring defense (56.2 PPG allowed). Lewis-Eutsey is averaging 3.4 steals per contest with 48 total swipes, 11 more than the next closest SBC defender.
Marshall Women's Basketball is off to its best 14-game start in a decade. The Herd returns to the court on New Year's Day at Coastal Carolina.
