HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball delivered a gritty defensive display to defeat Kent State 70-62 at the Cam Henderson Center on Saturday. The Herd improved to 7-3 after the first 10 games of the 2025-26 season.
Marshall seized control early, forcing Kent State into a scoring drought during a pivotal 13-0 run that spanned the end of the first quarter and the start of the second. The Herd led 16-10 after the opening quarter and built the advantage to 26-12 midway through the second, thanks to contributions from a balanced lineup and dominant interior defense.
Marshall's defensive numbers told the story with 12 blocks, 10 steals, and 17 points off turnovers. The 12 rejections were the most by Marshall since Jan. 1, 2021 (14 at Louisiana Tech). The Herd also enjoyed a perfect night at the free-throw line, making all 12 attempts, while Kent State converted just three-of-seven. Marshall led for more than 33 minutes and got a key boost from its bench, which outscored the Kent State reserves 22-15.
Timaya Lewis-Eutsey spearheaded both ends of the floor, finishing with 16 points, six steals, three blocks and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. Leyocha Marigney anchored the defensive wall off the bench, swatting four shots and adding nine points on 4-of-6 shooting.
The Golden Flashes closed the gap in the third quarter, even taking a brief lead before the Herd responded with tenacious defense and a critical triple from Meredith Maier, who finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Olivia Olson nearly posted a double-double, tallying ten points and a team-high nine boards to help Marshall control the glass and tempo.
