Sophia Hurrion Earns Second Straight SBC Player of the Week Honor

NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University Tennis senior Sophia Hurrion was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week on Wednesday, as announced by the league office. Hurrion is 7-0 in singles this Spring without dropping a set and is 5-0 in doubles matches.

Hurrion helped The Herd to wins at Indiana and at Miami (OH) for the team to move to a 7-0 record by going 4-0 in her matches last week.

At Indiana on Friday, she combined with Aisling McGrane for a 6-4 win over Marina Fuduric/Li Hsin Lin at No. 2 doubles and followed with a 6-2, 6-4, win over Nicole Sifuentes at No. 4 singles.

Then Sunday at Miami (OH), the Hurrion along with McGrane took down Lauren Joyce/ Nishitha Saravanan, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles for the duo's third win of the season. The native of Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom, concluded the weekend with another straight-sets win, 7-5, 6-0, over Saravanan as she moved up to No. 3 singles.

Marshall gets back on the court Friday in Blacksburg, Virginia, as they face off against Virginia Tech to open the weekend at 2 p.m.
