Herd Women’s Basketball Wins Overtime Thriller Over Old Dominion

2/13/2025 9:26:00 PM | Women's Basketball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball (8-17, 3-10 SBC) broke through with a 73-70 overtime win over Old Dominion (14-12, 6-7 SBC) Thursday evening at the Cam Henderson Center in front of 1,036 fans.

Aislynn Hayes led all scorers with 29 points, including shooting 11-of-11 from the free throw line. It was the Sun Belt's leading-scorer's 22nd game with double digits and eighth with 20-plus points.

CC Mays and Madison Kellione had 15 and 14 points additionally to help pace Coach Juli Fulks's side.

"Well it certainly feels good to come out on the other side of one of those games that came down to the wire," Coach Fulks said. "I thought the biggest thing we were trying to stress was being efficient in the second half and then getting defensive boards. We hit all those numbers in the second half. We got a huge rebound [from Aislynn Hayes] and that was probably one of the biggest differences tonight. So many of these close games we've gotten a stop and then we just couldn't come up with the ball, but tonight we did. So I was really proud of [the team]."

The Herd is now 2-1 in overtime games this season.

Hayes nearly won the contest at the end of regulation, with her potential driving layup circling around the rim before falling out. Her nine points and five from freshman Kassie Ingram in the fourth helped MU rally after entering the period down two.

"I knew going into overtime that we had it just with how hard we had been playing all game," Aislynn Hayes said. "You could tell we wanted this game and we deserved it, we work hard every single day so it was a good win."

In the overtime period, Kellione opened the scoring with the period's only triple halfway through the five minutes. Free throws from Hayes and Mays helped keep the Herd in front with the ODU game-tying attempt coming off the mark.

The Herd closes its three-game homestand Saturday, Feb. 15 against Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m. Saturday is Marshall's Play4Kay Game with the team wearing its pink uniforms.
