HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (7-0) heads to the state of Virginia for a pair of matches this weekend taking on Virginia Tech (6-1) Friday and VCU (4-1) on Sunday.

PREMATCH NOTES
  • The Herd took a pair of contests at Indiana, 4-3, and at Miami (OH), 7-0, last weekend to extend the team's unbeaten streak to seven contests this Spring.
  • Sophia Hurrion was honored as the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week. The senior remains unbeaten in 2025 with a 7-0 singles record while sporting a 5-0 mark in doubles.
  • With an unblemished 4-0 record in doubles, Aisling McGrane has won three of those matches with Hurrion and one with Nel Van Hout.
  • Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden are each 5-2 in singles during the Spring.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
  • The Hokies are on a six-match winning streak after falling at Duke, 4-0, in the team's 2025 opener on January 20.
  • Ozlem Uslu is currently ranked 28th in the country with a 16-6 record this season, 4-2 during the Spring. Uslu reached the Round of 16 in the Fall at the NCAA Individual Championships.
  • Charlotte Cartledge and Uslu are ranked 67th in the doubles rankings. The duo is 12-4 this season, including 6-1 in 2025 playing five matches at No. 1 and two at No. 2.
 
SCOUTING VCU
  • After falling in the team's opener 5-2 to App State on January 17, the Rams have rattled off four straight wins.
  • VCU travels to College Park, Maryland, on Friday for a contest against the Maryland Terrapins before hosting The Herd.
  • Lee Malazdra and Sofia Jane Thorne each enter the week 4-1 in singles. The pair are also 3-0 as a doubles pairing this Spring.
