HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball team (18-12, 11-6 SBC) opened the week with an 83-66 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs (11-19, 7-10 SBC) on Tuesday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

The Herd made 61.5 percent (8-for-13) of its attempts from three-point range.

"I'm proud of our guys, that was a really good team win," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Corny Jackson said. "They came out on fire to start the game, but we kept our poise for the most part and made some adjustments. To start the game, we had a few defensive assignments and we corrected those at half time."

MU saw four register double-figure points led by Dezayne Mingo's 22 to go with a game-high six assists. Obinna Anochili-Killen followed with 18 points adding a game-high eight rebounds and three assists. Nate Martin and Mikal Dawson followed with 12 and 11, respectively.

The first half saw both teams trade leads multiple times. Neither side held a lead greater than five points in the opening half as Marshall led 39-34 with 1:06 left in the opening 20 minutes after a Mingo free throw. The Monarchs tallied the final four points of the half to see MU have a 39-38 advantage at the break.

ODU registered four of the first six points of the second to grab a 42-41 advantage at the 17:14 mark. However, the visitors would score just four points in the next 11 minutes. The Herd rattled off a 20-4 run from the 16:58 mark to 6:53, including 10 points from Mingo, to go up 61-46. MU cruised from there as pair of Mingo freebies 5:06 left on the clock gave the Green and White its largest lead of the game at points, 71-54.

After making 46.4 percent of its shots from the field (13-for-28), including 40 percent (6-for-15) from three-point range, The Herd defense held the visitors to just seven makes on 22 attempts (31.8 percent) from the field and just 1-for-8 from three (12.5 percent). 13 of ODU's 28 second half points came from the free-throw line.

The Herd outrebounded the Monarchs 34-24 and dominated the paint 30-12.
