Marshall Softball Drops Pair in Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — Marshall Softball opened its weekend at the home of the four-time defending champions with games against the top-ranked Sooners and the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Herd scored first in each game before eventually falling in Friday's back-to-back games.
First Game: Kansas 10, Marshall 2 (6 innings)
The Herd jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-out RBI hit in the 2nd from Chandler Hoskins. The redshirt freshman started both games in right field Friday.
Marshall held on for the first three innings with starter Jules King. But two in the 4th, two in the 5th, and five in the 6th flipped around the game in favor of the Jayhawks.
MU ended the game with three hits against the Big 12's Kansas.
Second Game: #1 Oklahoma 9, Marshall 1 (5 innings)
Marshall took the lead on the top-ranked Sooners with two-out hits from Rielly Lucas and Tia Titi.
Pitching-wise saw several statistical firsts for the Herd, with sophomore Emily Cole making her first-career start against the four-time defending champions. Cole held the Sooners in check for the first two innings before a three-run 3rd put the hosts in control.
Senior Lindsay Henson pitched the 4th before freshmen Maddie Veal and a debuting Aiko Conaway finished out the game in the 5th.
UP NEXT
Marshall faces UMKC (0-10) Saturday 2:45 p.m. eastern, 1:45 Norman time from OU's previous stadium, Marita Hynes Field. The Herd is back on Love's Field against the Sooners at 7 p.m. eastern Saturday.
