OXFORD, Ohio – The Marshall University Tennis team (7-0) extended its winning streak to seven matches with a 7-0 sweep on the road Sunday over the Miami (OH) RedHawks (0-3).
"Miami really pushed us, but I was really excited with how we responded," Herd Tennis Head Coach John Mercer said. "JoJo and Nel were down match point in doubles, but stayed with the process to pick up the win and doubles point. It was very impressive."
In doubles, the hosts took the contest at No. 1 doubles, but Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane moved their perfect record as a duo on the season to 3-0 with a 6-3 win at No. 2.
Then at No. 3, Johanna Strom and Nel Van Hout battled off match point and took the final four games to take the match 7-5 and clinch the doubles point for MU.
The Herd took every singles contest in straight sets with Strom, Emma Vanderheyden, Hurrion, Alina Mokrynskaya, McGrane and Nour El Ouazzani taking their matches at No. 1-6, respectively.
The victory for El Ouazzani at No. 6 marked her first collegiate win.
