HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics is proud to announce a unique venture that teams Marshall Football with the City of Huntington.
The initiative is called "Paving The Way To Victory" and it entails Marshall Athletics giving back to the city through community service to serve the fans that cheer on the Thundering Herd each Saturday.
If Marshall Football sees 500 new season-ticket sales by March 17, the football team will join up with the City of Huntington's Public Works Department to fill potholes across the city.
"You have to love the leadership in our community," said Christian Spears, Marshall Director of Athletics. "I'm honored to work with Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell and his team as we all find solutions to address community projects. I'm also thankful to Coach Gibson and the team for immediately offering to help pave the way to a championship season while we work together to address streets and neighborhoods in need."
Everyone wins in this initiative as Herd fans not only can lock in their tickets to cheer on the Marshall Football team, but they can also support the community as the players help the City of Huntington to improve our streets.
"Winning teams succeed by showing up for each other on and off the field," Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell said. "By teaming up to fix potholes, the city and Marshall are proving that real teamwork builds a stronger, safer community."
Residents can report potholes at any time and the City of Huntington crews work year-round to address them. However, in the two weeks leading up to March 25, the Huntington WV 311 App will feature a special option: Paving the Way To Victory. When reporting a pothole, selecting this tab will prioritize that location for repairs during the event where it will be filled by city crews and Marshall Football players.
Whether through this initiative or regular road maintenance, the City of Huntington Public Works team remains committed to keeping Huntington's streets safe and well-maintained.
Together, we're tackling potholes one play at a time and making Huntington's roads safer!
