Projected 1st Round Pick Mike Green, teammates audition for 29 NFL teams

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall defensive lineman Mike Green had plenty of smiles to go around on Monday afternoon in his return to the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex.
The projected 1st Round Pick in the 2025 NFL Draft joined 14 of his senior teammates from Marshall's 2024 Sun Belt Championship team to showcase their abilities for 29 NFL teams who sent scouts, GMs and coaches to Huntington to see them and talk to them in person.
For Green, it was not just a chance to showcase his ability, but also a chance to give one final thank you to Marshall – a place that he said will always be home.
Green didn't just show off his abilities, either; he also showed off a brand-new Marshall logo tattoo on his right arm that he got to pay homage to a place he said helped catapult him to being in position to get drafted high when the 2025 NFL Draft takes place on April 24-26.
"I think it was great being able to see all my teammates that I played with," Green said. "It's a pleasure to go out and show what we can do. I think just being out here, being around everybody, coming back to Marshall – my second home – it was a pleasure to be here, and I love everybody here."
Even in limited work, Green did not disappoint the NFL scouts and personnel in attendance, boasting of a 3-Cone Drill that was a 6.85 and a 20-yard shuttle that was 4.25.
For perspective, the 3-Cone Drill time would have been No. 1 among all Defensive Linemen and Linebackers at the 2025 NFL Combine while his 20-yard Shuttle time would have been No. 2 among all Defensive Linemen and Linebackers.
Green said that the pre-draft process has been a nerve-wracking one, but being back in Huntington helped he and his teammates calm the anxiety by being with guys they've achieved greatness with before.
The impact of Green's presence at Pro Day was felt immediately as Marshall's contingent of athletes took full advantage of the opportunity to perform and speak with representatives from nearly all NFL teams.
One player who took full advantage of that exposure was safety J.J. Roberts, who had previously been lauded in the pre-draft process by veteran NFL Draft insider Mel Kiper, Jr.
Roberts made good on Kiper's projections of him being a key sleeper at the safety position by putting on an athletic show for the NFL scouts in attendance.
Comparatively speaking, Roberts put in a workout in which SIX of his numbers would have ranked him in the Top-5 among all safeties invited to the 2025 NFL Combine. Those numbers include:
-Â Â Â Â Â 40-yard dash: 4.41 (Tied-3rd among NFL Combine safeties)
-Â Â Â Â Â Pro bench reps (225 pounds): 20 (Tied for 1st)
-Â Â Â Â Â Vertical: 40.5 inches (4th)
-Â Â Â Â Â 10-yard split: 1.46 seconds (1st)
-Â Â Â Â Â 20-yard shuttle: 4.11 (2nd)
-Â Â Â Â Â 3-Cone Drill: 6.76 (2nd)
Roberts, who grew up watching Marshall Football as a young boy with his parents before ever putting on the helmet for the Herd, said that he's dreamed of this opportunity. Now, with Monday's performance, he's one step closer to making that dream a reality. That doesn't mean the work ends on Monday, however.
"I'm going to stay fresh, stay in shape," Roberts said. "I will probably have some interviews to do after today, so I'm going to stick to the process and go where God takes me."
Other notable numbers from Monday's Pro Day included running back Jordan Houston getting 20 reps on the Pro Bench set at 225 pounds and linebacker J'Coryan Anderson running the 3-cone drill in 7.10 seconds – both of which would've been Top-3 at their position at the NFL Combine.
Marshall Head Coach Tony Gibson said he was pleased to see the turnout for the players, which not only helps them, but also helps the future of the program.
"It's great exposure for our program, especially in recruiting, and it's really good to see these guys who gave so much to Marshall get their opportunity to showcase their talent," Gibson said. "We had the GM and Head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, a lot of…coaches here, and a couple of guys stood out."
In addition to the multitude of NFL personnel there, NFL wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick was in town to see his brother – Marshall wide receiver Christian Fitzpatrick – show off for scouts.
Former Marshall linebacker Eli Neal – now with the Los Angeles Rams – also was in attendance to cheer on former teammates.
Marshall's contingent of 15 players to work out for scouts on Monday included Green, Roberts, Houston, Anderson, Fitzpatrick, defensive linemen Deeve Harris, TyQaze Leggs, Jude Okolo, Jason Shuford and RaQuan Thompson, offensive linemen Jeremy Jones and Elijah Ellis, running back Ethan Payne, wide receiver DeMarcus Harris and safety Ish Roy.
