No. 64 Marshall Tennis Earns 4-1 Win Over Georgia Southern

McGrane, Hurrion dominant in pair of wins to pace Herd’s victory
BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. – No. 64 Marshall Tennis earned a 4-1 win over Georgia Southern on Friday afternoon at the 7827 Tennis Center in Barboursville.
Aisling McGrane and Sophia Hurrion paced the Herd with a pair of wins on the day to lead the team past the Eagles.
"Sophia and Aisling came out and played really solid matches," Marshall Tennis coach John Mercer said. "It's hard to get them all to do it on the same day, but we had enough of them do so today. They all keep working hard; it's just a matter of coming out and doing it consistently."
McGrane and Hurrion set the tone early with a 6-0 win in doubles that helped lead the Herd to the doubles point after Johanna Strom and Nel Van Hout followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
The momentum stayed from there as McGrane defeated Georgia Southern's Nanaka Kijima, 6-1, 6-2, to push the Herd lead to 2-0 in the match.
Hurrion followed with her own 6-1, 6-2 victory over Georgia Southern's Amelie Rosadaro to push the Herd within a point of clinching the win.
That victory came at No. 3 singles when Alina Mokrynskaya earned a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 win over Georgia Southern's Mackenzie Leopold to give the Herd the victory.
The team returns to action at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning for a match against Coastal Carolina.
"Sunday will be good against another good team," Mercer said. "Hopefully, we come out and play well."
