Herd Softball’s Season Ends in SBC Quarterfinals

TROY, Ala. — Marshall Softball's 2025 season came to a close in a 5-2 defeat on a hot Thursday afternoon to Coastal Carolina. The Herd finishes its season with a 31-23 record.
The seven-seed Chanticleers - who have the most overall wins in the league with 39 following Thursday - scored two to begin the game and three more in the 3rd.
MU responded with a pair in the bottom of the 3rd with hits from seniors Kasia Parks and Rielly Lucas, but were unable to get over the hump against Coastal's SBC Pitcher of the Year.
Junior Paige Maynard and the Herd defense held Coastal to one hit over the final 4.2 IP in relief.
Coach Morgan Zerkle's Herd improved by six wins in year two. Four seniors; Lucas, Parks, Bub Feringa, and Lindsay Henson have definitively exhausted eligibility.
"This senior class took the culture and ran with it," Coach Zerkle said. "They really helped the underclassmen and transfers come along and show them what Marshall is all about. They also raised the bar for what we can be. To be predicted ninth and finish second overall in the regular season and have a shot, I think we are a team which showed a lot of fight this season."
