Geovanna Souza Named SBC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Marshall Women's Soccer is off to its best start in 16 years. Part of the reason is due to the play of freshman forward Geovanna Souza, who was named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week by the league office Tuesday.
The native of Goiania, Brazil contributed to two goals within the first 10 minutes of the match in the Herd's historic win over Ohio Sunday. Souza's strike to open the scoring was her second in as many games before placing a perfect cross to senior Bailey Fisher to set up the eventual winning goal for MU.
She notched six points (two goals, two assists) across the second week of play.
"We work hard everyday," Souza said following the team's win at Ohio Sunday. "We don't just play for us, we play for our Marshall fans and our families. I am happy for our team."
Souza is Marshall's first SBC Player of the Week since Kat Gonzalez in October of 2022.
