RADFORD, Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (3-0) finished action at the Highlander Invitational with a perfect weekend after a 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 16-25, 25-15) win over Radford on Saturday.
"Extremely proud of our team," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout said. "Just constant fight, grit and leadership. We've been shaky in the third and something we are working through but proud of how they're finishing matches swinging away and just going for it."
The Herd jumped quick offensively with a 6-0 run to start the first set. MU never let the hosts closer than within four points again as Ciccarelli closed the set with a service ace to take it 25-23. Marshall had a .343 hitting percentage while holding Radford to .036.
The second set was closer between the two sides as The Herd was tied with the Highlanders 13-13 halfway through the set. After an Elli Barry kill to make it 14-13, Mu didn't trail the rest of the frame with a Highlander attacking error and a Barnett kill closing the set 25-20.
After falling in the third 25-16, the Green and White pulled out a dominating 25-15 performance in the fourth set. Audrey Geer collected four of her kills in the final set including three in the final four points to close the match.

"Emma Sayre did phenomenal in the back court defensively. It gave a huge advantage to our attackers confidence especially in rally situations. Early, we were able to establish the middles, both Cicca and Marae set us up for the fourth set to get Logan and Elli going. All in all, just team ball. I really like what we are building together each match and just getting better every time we compete. I am looking forward to a competitive weekend in Ann Arbor next week," Stout continued.
Emma Barnett led the way 16 kills as Beatrice Ciccarelli and Logan Henderson each had 10. Emma Sayre had 16 digs with Ciccarelli leading the team with four blocks.
