HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University saw its student-athletes earn 286 Academic Awards from the Sun Belt Conference for the 2024-25 school year, the conference announced on Thursday.
Marshall had three of its sports programs – Men's Basketball, Women's Golf and Women's Swim & Dive – top the Sun Belt Conference in Team GPA for the 2024-25 year.
"The Buck staff is extremely proud of our student-athletes for their achievements," said Kaylyn Torain, Marshall's Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services. "They continue to make extraordinary strides in the classroom and remain competitive within the conference."
In addition to having three teams top the Sun Belt in their respective sports in Team GPA, one of the most impressive accomplishments from the 2024-25 academic year included having 19 student-athletes earn the 1A FAR Academic Award, which is given to student-athletes who earned their Bachelor's Degree from Sept. 1, 2024 to Aug. 30, 2025 and maintained a 3.8 grade point average or better. Participation in at least two years of athletic competition at an FBS school is also a requirement for the award.
Marshall's tally of 19 student-athletes in that category tied for the most in the Sun Belt Conference with Old Dominion.
Of the 286 awards earned by Marshall's student-athletes, 176 of them were for those named to the SBC Commissioner's List, which honors student-athletes who maintained a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2024-25 academic year.
Another 91 Marshall student-athletes were named to the SBC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes those who maintained a 3.0 to 3.49 grade point average for the academic year.
According to the Sun Belt release, nearly 3,300 students were recognized for their academic achievement this year with 2,008 named to the Commissioner' List and 1,335 names to the Academic Honor Roll. There were 133 student-athletes across the member schools who earned the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.
