STATESBORO, Ga. – The No. 4 Marshall Men's Soccer team (3-1-4, 1-1-0 SBC) fell in 2-1 on the road in Statesboro, Georgia, to the Georgia Southern Eagles (8-0-1, 2-0-0 SBC) Sunday night.

"It's starting to feel like a broken record," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "Again, we've created so many more chances, but failed to win the game. I thought in the first phases of our build, we executed so well, and got to the final third almost every time. We have to start taking more of our chances. In the second half, we were much better, and we need that intensity for 90 minutes. But you can see what it means to Georgia Southern. Our lads have to understand that every team we play, our opponents will treat it like the college final, because they're playing Marshall. We have to be up for that, every time, every match, regardless of the opposition. Some ugly scenes at the end of the game with their fans charging our players, we're lucky someone didn't get hurt. We need to learn from tonight, carry a grudge, and use it for fuel."

Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Ricky Louis, who finished from close range.

Keaviano Francis came off the bench to fire home the equalizer in the 58th minute. The goal capped a strong spell for the Herd, generating 10 shots in the second half.

Francis' unassisted strike briefly shifted momentum toward Marshall, but the Eagles capitalized on a late counter to reclaim the lead.

In the 79th minute Louis netted his second goal of the contest for the eventual game-winning goal.

Alvaro Alvarez led the Herd with three shots. In goal, Eddie DeMarco played the full 90 minutes, recording two saves in his first start at Marshall.

Set-piece opportunities were even, with each side earning five corner kicks. Marshall finished with 15 shots to Georgia Southern's nine.
