BATON ROUGE, La. – The Marshall University Tennis team fell 4-0 to the No. 5 LSU Tigers Saturday in the opening round of the ITA Indoor Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

"Felt like we made a good jump in our level from last weekend. Pretty impressive starts from the top of our lineup with Alina and Polina up on two of the world's top 200 WTA players in doubles and Jo and Polina hanging tough in singles. Thanks to LSU for hosting us in the ITA National Indoor Championship and we look forward to playing UCF who lost a close match to UCLA tomorrow," Herd Tennis Head Coach John Mercer said.

The Tigers took the doubles point, but Alina Mokrynska and Polina Gumeniuk were one game away from taking down Cadence Brace and Kayla Cross at No. 1, both of whom played Australian Open qualifiers last week.

In singles, Johanna Strom was in a back-and-forth battle with Brace that went unfinished tied 5-5 in the first set on court one.

Gumeniuk fought Cross to a first-set tiebreak and was tied 1-1 in the second set as their contest also went unfinished.
