Herd’s RB one of 65 in running for ‘Most Oustanding Former Walk-On’

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall redshirt sophomore running back Judah Price was named as one of 65 nominees for the 2026 Burlsworth Trophy, the trophy's selection committee announced on Tuesday.

The Burlsworth Trophy recognizes outstanding college football players from across the country who began their careers as walk-ons and have distinguished themselves through performance, determination and perseverance.

"It is great to hear that Judah is a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy," Marshall head coach Tony Gibson said. "Judah represents everything good about college football with an elite love for the game, work ethic and desire to be great. Whether on the field, in the weight room or in the locker room, he's become a leader for us and he's a big part of our success."

Currently, Price leads Marshall in rushing with 319 yards on 56 carries with two touchdowns and he also has 11 catches for 101 yards and a score.

In Price's first start against Coastal Carolina, he scored a pair of touchdowns – a 50-yarder that got the Herd on the board and is still the team's longest run from scrimmage this season and a 9-yard scoring reception from Zion Turner.

The performance prompted Gibson to make him a captain for the Herd's primetime ESPN2 game against South Alabama and he later scored the game-winning 4-yard touchdown in the Herd's 20-13 win over the Jaguars.

Last week, Price got another start against Old Dominion and tallied a team-best 82 yards on 15 carries in the Herd 36-23 win.

Price's first major action at running back came earlier this season in the fourth quarter of the Herd's win at Missouri State earlier this season when he rushed for 55 yards on six carries.

Price's career began as a walk-on at West Virginia, but following a coaching change on the WVU staff, he connected with Gibson and joined the Marshall program in time for spring drills in 2025.

Price immediately made an impact with his work ethic and leadership in the weight room and on the field, earning a scholarship quickly from Gibson.

Coming into this season, Gibson looked at Price as one of the players who made great strides and Price has taken that to the field to help lead the Herd.

The Burlsworth Trophy Selection Committee will announce semifinalists on Nov. 10 with finalists being announced one week later.

About The Burlsworth Trophy

The Burlsworth Trophy was established in 2010 to honor the legacy of Brandon Burlsworth and recognize the extraordinary achievements of walk-on athletes.

Burlworth arrived at the University of Arkansas in 1994 without a single Division I scholarship offer. Through his unmatched work ethic, determination and commitment to excellence, he earned a scholarship, became a three-year starter and ultimately achieved All-American status.

Tragically, just 11 days after being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL Draft, Brandon Burlsworth was killed in an automobile accident.

Today, his legacy lives on through the Burlsworth Trophy and the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation, which supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, particularly those who have limited opportunities.
