Herd Finishes Strong in Final Showing Before SBC Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Marshall Track & Field closed out its indoor regular season with a strong showing at the Darius Dixon Invitational hosted by Liberty University. The Herd captured individual wins from Justin Lipscomb in the Men's 3K and Markayla Moore in the women's Weight Throw Friday, adding three more podium finishes and a slew of top-5 performances Saturday.
Multiple athletes advanced through sprint rounds and several relay and field squads landed high marks, giving the team strong momentum heading into the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships.
Track Events
• Men 60m: Micah Hinton advanced through the rounds with marks of 6.82 in prelims, 6.80 in semis, then claimed 2nd in the finals with 6.82. Cole Friedman (6.87 prelims, 6.82 semis) and Jonathan Owusu (6.90 prelims, 6.82 semis) also reached the finals. • Women 60m: Bay'Andria Hodges finished 4th in the finals with 7.61, backing up a 7.52 in the semifinals. • Men 3000m Invite: Justin Lipscomb took 1st place with a winning time of 8:19.09. • Women 800m Open: Gwen Gaffney clocked 2:15.08 for 2nd place. • Women 1000m: Maggie Froning finished 3rd in 2:55.52 - 2nd-best mark in program history. • Men 5000m Invite: Brady Dawkins placed 3rd with a 15:06.48. • Men 200m Open: Jonathan Owusu finished 9th in 22.03. • Women 200m Invite: Bay'Andria Hodges placed 9th in 24.58. • Men 400m Invite: Chase Peterson recorded a 9th place finish in 48.47. • Men 4x400m Relay: The Herd's 'A' relay team finished 5th in 3:16.63. • Women 4x400m Relay: Marshall's 'A' squad placed 9th in 3:49.93.
Field Events
• Women Weight Throw: Markayla Moore was the event champion with a throw of 19.74m. • Women Shot Put: Moore also took 4th, tossing 14.69m. • Men Triple Jump Upper: Camron Hamby leapt to 2nd place with a mark of 15.02m with Otenidi Omot finishing 3rd at 14.96 meters. Men's Shot Put: Gabriel Urraca finished 5th in the shot put (16.11m) . • Men High Jump Invite: Ryan Muktar cleared 2.01m for 5th. • Men Long Jump Upper: Cole Miller placed 5th with a jump of 7.27m. • Women Triple Jump Upper: Alayezia Williams was 6th in 11.78m.
