GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving Team saw Elyse Wood set the 100 Freestyle program record and take silver on the final day of the American Championship on Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
What an honor it is to lead these women, Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said. Through everything, this group has taken each day with grace, grit, and determination. Our final day was one to remember.
The freshman from Miami, Florida, tied the record in Prelims with a time of 49.44, before setting the record in the final with a time of 48.82.
On the tower in Platform Diving, Zoe Wuerdeman reached the Consolation with a score of 182.70, the eighth highest in program history before taking 16th in Consols.
Zoe Wuerdeman, with the assistance of Tom, pulled off a beautiful platform list for a Top 16 placing in one of the deepest mid-major conferences in the country in less than three weeks of working alongside each other. Maddie had a great mile, her second-best time ever, good for sixth in Greensboro. One of the highlights was Elyse's incredible comeback finish to get her hand on the wall for second place, shattering our school record by over half a second in the 100 Free.
In the 1650 Freestyle, Maddie Emment took sixth with Preslava Tosheva and Charlotte Thompson picking up points for The Herd with 22nd and 24th-place finishes, respectively.
Karley Wolfgram added to MU's total with a 24th-place finish and C Final appearance in the 100 Freestyle.
We had numerous lifetime best swims, multiple All Time Top 10 performances, and we got to share it with over 100 family, friends, and alumni cheering for these women here at the GAC tonight.
The Herd saw another pair of top-10 program finish with Abby Adams finishing the 200 Backstroke in 1:59.85 for 14th place and the eighth-fastest time in program history with Lauren Ramsey setting the 10th fastest time in program history at 2:01.66 and 19th place. 200 Backstroke was a big-point event for Marshall as Mia McBride also reached the C Final and placed 17th.
Isabelle Cameron and Maddy Akin scored points in the 200 Breaststroke with B and C Finals appearances, respectively.
The session closed out with the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Molly Warner, Maddie Emment, Nina Nugent and Karley Wolfgram taking ninth.
Our coaches and staff love this team and couldn't have asked for a better group of women to share this experience with.
