MOBILE, Ala. – Marshall Women's Basketball overcame an early road deficit Wednesday night, topping South Alabama 69-60 at the Mitchell Center in Mobile. The Herd (19-6, 10-3 SBC) rode a 19-9 second-quarter surge to secure their third straight road victory and remain in the top-4 of the league standings.
Ni'Kiah Chesterfield delivered her first double-double of the season, posting 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a Herd career-best 13 rebounds, more than doubling her previous season high (six vs. Coastal Carolina - Jan. 10). Chesterfield topped 1,000 points for her career Wednesday, she entered the season with 845 points across two seasons for Tusculum.

After trailing by six at the end of the first quarter, Marshall seized momentum with a stifling defensive effort in the second, holding South Alabama to just nine points on 21 percent shooting. The Herd flipped an 18-12 deficit into a 31-27 halftime lead, punctuated by a clutch three-pointer from Timberlynn Yeast to make it a two-possession game at the break.
Meredith Maier continued her torrid stretch from beyond the arc, tying her season high with five made 3-pointers - including three in the third - and finishing with 15 points. Maier extended her double-digit scoring streak to six consecutive games.
Timaya Lewis-Eutsey kept pace with 17 to co-lead the Herd along with Chesterfield. The Herd's senior is averaging 18.1 PPG this season and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line including MU's final points to seal the road win.
