MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Marshall Women's Basketball staged a second-half comeback to defeat Central Michigan 88-81 on Saturday afternoon in McGuirk Arena, clinching its 20th win of the season in the MAC-SBC Challenge. Sparked by a career-high 36 points from Timaya Lewis-Eutsey, the Herd overcame an eight-point halftime deficit.
Trailing 43-35 at the break, Marshall (20-6) unleashed a relentless attack in the second half, outscoring Central Michigan 53-38. Lewis-Eutsey was unstoppable, pouring in a season-high 36 points on 14-of-25 shooting while collecting a season-best eight steals.
Lewis-Eutsey joins Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo as the only players in DI with 35 points and eight steals in a game this season. She is one of six players in NCAA DI this year to have five 30-point performances.
Meredith Maier delivered her own season-best effort with 19 points—connecting on a career-high six three-pointers - and extended her double-digit scoring streak to seven games. Maier's long-range shooting catalyzed a 27-point third-quarter explosion, highlighted by her go-ahead three at the 5:26 mark that gave Marshall a 53-50 lead.
Timberlynn Yeast added 12 points on her birthday and tied for the team lead with six rebounds, including a putback and-one layup with 47 seconds left to put the Herd up 84-79.
The win is Marshall's seventh on the road this season.
