ATLANTA, Ga. — Marshall Softball got the stellar performance it needed from sophomore Maddie Veal in the circle Saturday. The Herd's starter pitched a complete game, striking out a career-high seven as the Herd (18-9, 1-1 SBC) leveled the three-game series against GSU (18-10, 1-1 SBC), 3-1.
Veal has now pitched three-consecutive complete games with one run allowed across her last 22 IP. The Newnan, Ga. native was assisted by Haleigh Adkins' smooth double play to end it in the 7th.
"Coming in with a loss yesterday I just knew I had to have my best stuff today to help the team," Veal said. "I knew my team had my back and being back home in front of all my family members was great."
The Herd's offense came in the form of a three-run home run to dead center by Bella Gerlach in the 2nd. Gerlach's 10th of the season came following a two out single by Tia Titi and Abby Darnley reaching via error.

Marshall had some tough luck from the plate following the Gerlach homer, including a robbed home run in the very next at-bat by Sydni Burko.
The day would belong to Veal, who consistently had the right pitch at the right time. Her most important strikeout came to end the 5th with the potential tying run in scoring position. Veal stranded seven Panthers in total.
