Marshall, Western Kentucky Sign Home-and-Home Series

Herd will travel to WKU in 2031, host Hilltoppers in 2032
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall and Western Kentucky have finalized a home-and-home series for the 2031 and 2032 seasons, both schools announced on Monday afternoon.
Marshall will travel to Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium for the first matchup between the teams on Sept. 13, 2031 while the Herd will host the Hilltoppers at Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Sept. 18, 2032 in the return game.
"We are thrilled to renew this series with Western Kentucky," said Gerald J. Harrison, Marshall's Vice President and Director of Athletics. "This is exactly the kind of matchup that excites our fans and student-athletes. There's real history between these programs and adding a regional opponent like WKU brings a level of intensity and pride that makes college football special. We know Herd Nation will travel well and create an electric atmosphere both in Bowling Green and in Huntington."
The announcement of this series brings two fierce rivals back onto the football field for an entertaining matchup of teams who are traditionally in the upper echelon of their respective conferences.
The contests will represent the 14th and 15th meetings respectively in the all-time history of the series between the teams, which dates back to 1941.
The series elevated in intensity in 2014 when Western Kentucky joined Conference USA's East Division and instantly forged a rivalry with the Herd as the two competed for Conference USA supremacy.Â
When the Herd travels to Bowling Green, Ky., for the 2031 meeting, it will have been 10 seasons since the last meeting took place in Huntington.Â
Marshall has won its last two games at Houchens Industries/L.T. Smith Stadium – a thrilling 20-17 win over WKU in 2018 and a 38-14 victory over the Hilltoppers in 2020, which preceded a C-USA Championship appearance.
Marshall leads the overall series between the teams, 8-5.Â
