PENSACOLA, Fla. – Marshall Women's Basketball fell to South Alabama, 73-58, in the fourth round of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday afternoon at Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla.
With the loss, the Herd falls to 23-9 on the season and will await word on potential postseason play.
"Obviously, that is never how you want the end of the season to finish," Marshall Women's Basketball coach Juli Fulks said. "I am really proud of the effort we've had this year. I just thought that over the course of a 31-game season and today, we've had a lot of really good moments. We have six seniors who have a lot to be proud of."
Currently, the Herd's 23 wins are third-most in a single season in Marshall Women's Basketball history. The team also more than doubled its regular-season win total from last year, finishing +12 in that category in 2025-26 – one of the biggest increases in win total in Division I basketball.
In Friday's loss, senior Timaya Lewis-Eutsey finished with 18 points, eight steals and six rebounds. The eight steals were one off the tournament record of nine, set by Western Kentucky's Dawn Warner in 1996.
Peyton Ilderton also hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points while Timberlynn Yeast ended the game with 10.
After trailing by 12 at halftime, the Herd was able to cut it to a six-point game on several occasions in the second half, but could not get the needed bucket to make it closer.
The Jaguars hit 18 of 23 free throw attempts in the second half to extend out the lead.
Marshall forced South Alabama into 22 turnovers in the contest.
Word of postseason play will not come until after the NCAA Women's Basketball Selection Show on the evening of March 15.
