ATHENS, Ohio — Marshall Softball (32-11) dropped its first game this month, falling 4-2 to Ohio (29-15) Wednesday.
The Herd hit back-to-back home runs in the 6th off the bats of its two-leading home run hitters, Sydni Burko and Ava Blake. Burko's 17th led off the frame to put Marshall on the board, while Blake followed with her 15th of 2026.

Unfortunately for MU, a four-run 3rd was enough for the Bobcats, who did not reach base after the consequential inning. Junior Jules King retired the final 11 OU hitters she faced in relief.
Burko came up to the plate again an inning later with two outs in the 7th and the tying-run on base, but was robbed by a diving catch in center to end the contest.
The nine-game winning streak is over for the Herd, but the team returns to the field Friday with its league-leading 13-2 record intact.

The Herd returns to Sun Belt Conference action Friday at home against South Alabama. First pitch from Dot Hicks Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
