RICHMOND, Ky. – The Marshall University Volleyball Team (5-4) dropped its match on Tuesday night 3-0 25-23, 25-14, 25-21) to the EKU Colonels in Richmond, Kentucky.

"We didn't stay consistent with the game plan, and that's on us. We talked and prepped a lot this week about having more pride in our defense and I thought we improved in that area, but it also created some breakdowns offensively. We had too many unforced errors, and against a good team, you're not going to get away with that," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout said. "When we're in system, disciplined, and doing what we're supposed to do, this is a tough team to beat. But we have to learn to maintain that level of play and not let up, especially when we get leads. You can't take leads for granted, and we did that at times tonight."

Logan Henderson and Marae Reilly led the team with 10 kills each as Kahea Carvalho had 19 assists. Reilly finished with a .412 hitting percentage. Beatrice Ciccarelli led the way with five blocks.

The first set was tightly contested. The Herd and Colonels saw the scoreboard tied 11 ties with seven lead changes in the opening frame. The two sides were tied 21-21 late in the set, but the Colonels captured four of the final six points to take it 25-23. MU had a .222 hitting percentage, but EKU answered by hitting .394.

After the Colonels went wire-to-wire by taking the second set 25-14, Marshall led 16-11 in the third after a kill by Carvalho. However, EKU battled back to take the set and match with a 25-21 victory to close out the frame.

Credit to EKU. They were aggressive in every phase, they kept pressure on us, and it showed," Stout said. "All in all, this was a great team that resembles what we'll see in SBC play and will help prepare us further down the road. We have to utilize this experience, get ready for Morehead, and put ourselves in a positive position heading into conference play."
