(RV) Herd Men’s Soccer Tallies Late Goal to Defeat Eastern Illinois

Nugent tallied team-leading fourth goal; Romberg scored the game-winner

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The (RV) Marshall Men's Soccer Team (4-1-2) registered a 2-1 win over the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Tuesday night at Hoops Family Field.
"I hate to say, we were playing down a gear tonight in between two big conference rivalry games," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "We kind of played within ourselves a little bit tonight, but we're definitely on the trajectory to be a great team."
The Herd came out firing with five of the first six shots taken in the game. Ramado Pierre-Louis had the first shot on target with the attempt being saved by EIU goalkeeper Kai Odagiri at the 27:34 mark.
Yurij Obert then followed up with a huge save for the Herd in the 37th minute on a shot by Nolan Getzinger.
However, after Haruhi Taneda had a shot saved at the 39:44 mark, MU struck off the ensuing corner as the ball bounced off Goncalo Machado's head and Joshua Nugent followed by heading it home for his fourth goal of the season to make it 1-1 in the 41st minute as the two sides headed into halftime.
Just over 15 minutes into the second half, EIU tied the contest on a goal from Keiden Green at 60:55.
As the match wound down, the Herd had a few near misses. Then Joao Carvalho sent an over-the-top pass to Carl Romberg. Romberg took a touch toward the middle of the box and sent his shot past Odagiri for the game-winning tally with 4:30 left in the contest.
Marshall outshot Eastern Illinois 15-10, including 7-3 in shots on goal.
