Popovic was elevated to assistant coach in January of 2022.
In 2021-22, the Herd finished the year with a 15-13 record. Marshall capped the regular season with two big victories over WKU. The squad set a program record for the fewest turnovers per game at just 12.7, which led the league and ranked 22nd in the nation. Marshall also led C-USA in fewest total turnovers (355) which ranked ninth in the NCAA. Savannah Wheeler had a great season leading the league in scoring (20.3) good for 17th in the nation. Wheeler became the first Herd player to put up 40 in a game since 1999, with exactly 40 in a win over Oakland at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic. Wheeler ended the season named First Team All-Conference USA. Post-player Lorelei Roper had her best season of her collegiate career, leading the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and blocks (28). Roper had a streak of 15-straight games with at least five boards, and a 10-game streak recording at least one block. Roper was very effective on the offensive glass as well as 45.5-percent of her rebounds gave her team second chance opportunities.
Marshall flourished in the classroom as well in 2021-22 as 14-of-15 players were honored on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and three received the Academic Medal for a GPA of 3.75 or better. Dunham was named to the five-member All-Academic Team. The Herd’s team GPA for the academic year was 3.49.
He has handled the program's video efforts since his arrival in September of 2020. His duties have included scouting games, video analysis, producing videos for recruiting and social media, film exchange and a liaison for video and scouting software.
Prior to joining the Herd, Popovic was the video coordinator for Texas Tech Women's Basketball for the 2019-20 season. While he was there, the team finished with an 18-11 record, its best over the previous seven years.
In 2018-19, he worked for the Serbian national team as a training camp coach in preparation for a bronze-medal run in EuroBasket 2019 in Serbia and Latvia. He returned in the summer of 2021 as an assistant coach/scout and helped lead the team to the gold at Spain's EuroBasket 2021 and a fourth-place finish at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Popovic served as the Director of Operations and Video Coordinator for Robert Morris Women's Basketball during the 2017-18 season. The team finished 25-8 as regular season NEC champions, NEC Tournament Runners-Up and also appeared in the WNIT.
He graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop University in 2017 and has a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from LeMoyne-Owen College in 2014.
Popovic is from Belgrade, Serbia.
