Austin O'Connor joined the women’s soccer program as an assistant soccer coach on February 10, 2020.
O'Connor joins the Herd after working at the Jacksonville Armada Youth Academy. At the Jacksonville Armada Youth Academy, he was a part of a merger between Ponte Vedra Soccer Club and Jacksonville Football Club. This merger allowed the club to become one of the preeminent clubs in the state of Florida and have highly successful teams in girls ECNL and boys DA. Before his arrival to Marshall, O’Connor oversaw the Ponte Vedra location for the Armada serving as the DOC. He was responsible for team selection, player management, tournament organization, and coaching education for all teams at that campus. He was also heavily involved on both the ECNL and DA teams, coaching and training both programs from the u11-19 age groups. His teams were always among the most successful teams in the state. Consistently placing them in the top 5 FYSA state rankings annually.
Prior to getting into the coaching profession, O'Connor played collegiate soccer at Division 1 Gardner-Webb University for one season and three seasons at Division 2 powerhouse Flagler College. While at Flagler, he helped the team to a NCAA Tournament semi-final appearance in 2012, while being a quarterfinalist in 2011 and 2013. He was named Flagler Athletics Comeback Player of the Year in 2014.
Upon graduating, O’Connor received his undergraduate degree in Coastal Environmental Science. He has also received his USSF “D” coaching license and is currently in the process of receiving his USSF “C” coaching license.
