Recruited to Marshall from Oyster Bay, N.Y., by Coach Stu Aberdeen, Ken Labanowski helped the Thundering Herd basketball team to two Southern Conference Tournament championship games and another semifinal appearance over his four years in the Green and White. Known as a rough and tumble battler who never backed down from anyone, the 6-foot-7 high post player scored 1,252 points and pulled down 751 rebounds during his time at Marshall. Among his career highlights was helping Marshall to its first win over West Virginia University, a 91-78 triumph in December 1981. After completing his Marshall career, Labanowski played professional basketball for several seasons in Israel. He was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
