Men's Soccer Downs Bowling Green 1-0

10/14/2001

Huntington, W.Va.-The Marshall University men?s soccer team defeated Bowling Green State University 1-0 today at Sam Hood Field.

Marshall improved its record to 9-3-0, 3-2-0 in the conference, while Bowling Green fell to 4-5-1, 1-4-0 in the conference. The Thundering Herd controlled the entire match, out shooting the Falcons 32-6.

?I felt like we dominated most of the game,? head coach Bob Gray said. ?Bowling Green just made it really tough for us to score. We probably could have scored three or four goals; but, their goalkeeper played outstanding. With back to back conference losses, this was a really great win for us.?

Marshall?s Paul Duriu scored the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute. Off a corner kick by the Herd?s Firas Al-Sammarraie, Wayne Bennett took a shot that was
deflected by the keeper. Duriu corralled the lose ball and put it into the open net.

Bowling Green?s David DeGraff made 13 saves during the contest. Marshall?s Jeremy Williams recorded two saves to get the shutout victory.

The win ends Marshall?s two game losing streak. The Thundering Herd will now travel to Morgantown, W.Va., on Wednesday, October 17, to face West Virginia University at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference match.
