9/23/2001

Athens, Oh.- The Marshall University women?s soccer team lost a battle to the Ohio University Bobcats today at the Ohio University Soccer Complex in Athens, Oh., 1-0. Defense dominated the game for both teams, with only six shots on goal combined.

?We simply did not play well enough to win,? head coach Teresa Patterson said.

Marshall (3-4, 1-2 MAC) held the Bobcats scoreless until the 85th minute of the match. Ohio?s Christel Schiering chipped the ball in from the right side of the box to break the scoreless tie with only four minutes remaining in the contest.

The Herd was out shot in the match 12-14, but held the advantage in corner kicks 4-2. Marshall goalkeeper Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, NY) recorded five saves including a diving save at the goal line in the 67th minute.

?We didn?t play to our full potential,? Woods said. ?The back four played very well. It was just one quick let down.?

The Thundering Herd return to action next Friday, September 28 at 5:00. They will face the Zips of the University of Akron at Sam Hood Field on the campus of Marshall University.
