Marshall Tennis Finds Spot in Preseason Ranking

1/15/2002

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? For the first time ever the Marshall tennis team has been chosen in the International Tennis Association?s top 75 preason rankings.

The Herd, ranked no. 71, will compete against nine of the teams during its spring campaign. The teams Marshall will take on are: Wake Forest (15), North Carolina (17), Kentucky (23), Old Dominion (31), Virginia (40), William & Mary (49), Richmond (64), Western
Michigan (69) and Virginia Tech (t75).

Marshall has also added two new names to the roster for the spring semester. Lille Nzudie (freshman) and Isabelle Anderer (sophomore) are the Herd?s new additions.

Lille Nzudie, Cameroon native, will join the team on Wednesday. Nzudie was ranked as the #1 juniors player in Cameroon.

?Lille?s play was very limited in Cameroon because of the lack of competition in the country,? said head coach Laurie Mercer. ?She is a solid player and a good athlete and will defineatly be an asset to our team.?

Isabelle Anderer from Sinsheim, Germany is no stranger to Marshall athletics. Anderer also plays on the Marshall volleyball team. In Germany, Anderer was regionally ranked in juniors tennis.

?Isabelle is a two sport star and a great athlete,? said Mercer. ?Her solid work ethic she will bring to the team from volleyball will make her a good attribute to our program.?

Marshall will begin the fall season this weekend when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on the Wildcats.
