Men's Golf Finishes 17th at Adams Cup

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Marshall University men's golf team struggled to a 17th-place finish at the ninth annual Adams Cup of Newport.
The Thundering Herd shot rounds of 315, 315, and 309 to finish last in the 17-team field with a three round total of 939.
Derek Hurwitch shot rounds of 78, 80, and 76 to lead the Thundering Herd with a 234 (T-67th among individuals). Marshall's other scores were: Brad Tweel shot rounds of 78, 79, and 78 to record a 235; Ben Minyard shot rounds of 81, 77, and 77 to finish at 235; Drew Whitten recorded rounds of 78, 80, and 78 to finish at 236; and Ryan Stewart shot an 84, 79, and 83 for a score of 246.
Michigan State won the Adams Cup with an overall score of 873. The Spartans were followed by Texas A&M at 876, while Georgia and Kentucky tied for third at 879.
Georgia State University's Kasper Jorgenson and Ty Harris took first and second place among individuals after becoming the only two competitors to shoot under par in the tournament. Jorgensen recorded rounds of 68, 74, and 68 to finish four-under at 210, while Harris shot a 74, 70, and 69 to finish at 213 (-1). Despite, these strong performances, Georgia State finished eighth as a team at 884.
Marshall will return to action at the Xavier Invitational, Octover 14 and 15th, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
