Clayton Thomas Leads Herd On Day One Of 2026 Sun Belt Championship

Herd senior’s chip-in on No. 12 highlights strong first nine on Monday

MADISON, Miss. – Marshall senior Clayton Thomas shot an opening round 75 and had the team's most electrifying shot on the day as the Herd got action started at the 2026 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.
Thomas registered one of the day's most outstanding shots for the Herd when he stepped near the green on the par-3 12th hole.
The senior from Proctorville, Ohio, landed his tee shot just short of the green, but executed a chip perfectly as it bounced twice near the hole and fell in for one of the first birdies of the day on the hole.
It was part of a first nine holes for Thomas in which he shot 2-under after adding a birdie at the par-4 16th hole.
Another one of the day's top shots came on the 12th hole as Marshall junior Tanner Vest stuck his tee shot within three feet of the hole for his lone birdie of the day.
Marshall returns to the course for second round action at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday off of Hole No. 10.
