Freshman’s ace helps propel him to T-3 finish at NCR Collegiate
DAYTON, Ohio – Marshall freshman Jackson Harris had a birthday to remember on the golf course this week at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
Harris hit a Hole-in-One during his second round of action that helped propel him to a T-3 finish at 2-under for the tournament at NCR Country Club's South Course in Kettering, Ohio.
It was part of an effort that saw the Herd finish seventh in a strong field of 13 teams in Dayton.
"I was very happy with our finish to the fall. This was a strong field and the guys battled hard," said Marshall Men's Golf head coach Matt Grobe. "Jackson Harris finished up a great fall with a Hole-in-One and a third-place finish."
The Hole-in-One came on the par-3, 13th hole in which he used a 5-iron to find the cup from 200 yards out.
Following the ace, Harris proceeded to also birdie three of his next five holes, shooting a 30 on the back nine of the South Course en route to a 4-under 67 in the round.
For the week, Harris had 11 birdies and the eagle on the Hole-in-One that firmly kept him in contention throughout the tournament.
In the first round, Jackson Woodburn continued his strong play throughout the fall, carding an Even-par 71 in which he birdied four of five holes during one stretch of the round.
Woodburn, who also added an eagle on the par-5, 6th hole in his final round, finished T-26 and also had 11 birdies on the week.
The best round of the final day of competition belonged to Cael Ropietski, who notched an Even-par 71 that featured three birdies and 12 pars. Ropietski finished with 12 birdies on the week.
"Jackson Woodburn finished up a great fall and it's been great to watch his game progress over the last several years," Grobe said. "Cael showed a lot of good stuff this fall and I look for him to play great in the spring."
With the completion of the tournament, Marshall's Fall 2026 schedule has come to a close.
"I am looking forward to training over the winter and getting ready for the spring," Grobe said.
The team's next action will take place in the Spring 2027 Championship season, which starts with a trip to the Wexford Intercollegiate at Hilton Head, S.C., on Feb. 15.
