Jackson Woodburn Earns Runner-Up Finish At River Run Collegiate

Marshall sophomore finishes strong to earn a T-2 finish in Davidson, N.C.
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Marshall sophomore Jackson Woodburn ended a great week in which he earned runner-up honors at the River Run Collegiate, hosted by Davidson at River Run Country Club.
Woodburn posted an Even-par 72 in his final round on Tuesday to finish the tournament at 3-under, which was good for a T-2 finish.
"Jackson Woodburn played great this week!" Marshall head coach Matt Grobe said. "He played so well coming down the stretch to finish runner-up."
For Woodburn, it was his second top-10 finish in the first three events of the season after carding a T-8 finish in the Virtues Intercollegiate to open the year.
Like his final round at Virtues, this T-2 finish came after one of the stronger stretches of his golf season to date.
Woodburn's day started out with three bogeys as he started on No. 8, but he quickly turned that around with a birdie at No. 11 that started a 10-hole stretch in which he played River Run at 4-under to propel him back into contention.
Woodburn joined Spencer Hagood of Presbyterian as the only players in the tournament to finish at Even-par or better in all three rounds of the River Run Collegiate.
This is the second straight weekend that a Marshall golfer has finished as runner-up for a tournament as freshman Jackson Harris did so last week in the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.
Harris (2nd round) and Cael Ropietski (1st round) each carded Even-par 72s for the Herd's top rounds of the River Run Collegiate. Marshall finished eighth in the team portion of the competition.
"In all, it was a really good week for us at River Run," Grobe said. "We weren't thrilled with out final round. We are much better than we played (Tuesday). We look forward to getting back home and getting to work."
The Herd will now take a week off before competing in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, hosted by Cleveland State on Oct. 5-6 in Westlake, Ohio.
