BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Marshall University women?s soccer team could not pull off the comeback victory as they fell to the University at Buffalo on Sunday. Marshall (5-6-1/2-4-1) rallied to score in the final 10 minutes of the contest, but Buffalo (4-6-4/3-4-1) held on to take the 2-1 win on their home field.
Buffalo?s Natalia Croft put the Bulls on the board first as she took a pass from teammate Megan Hosey, chipped it off the far post and into the net for the score. The contest would remain 1-0 until the beginning of the second half when UB?s Emily Russell came through on a penalty kick for the Bulls.
Marshall finally answered in the 83rd minute of the contest as senior Lindsey Jayjack (Dublin, OH) blasted a shot past the Buffalo goalkeeper on a penalty kick for the Herd to make the score 2-1. The clock soon ran out on Marshall's rally as they were unable to tie up the match in the final minutes.
The Herd outshot the Bulls 16 to 11, with ten of those shots coming in the second half. MU?s goalkeeping platoon of Sarah Barber (Cincinnati, OH) and Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, NY) combined to make five saves in the match.
Marshall will return home to face Central Michigan in a Mid-American Conference contest on Friday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m.
