Eastman makes it 4-for-4 as Herd Women Place Second at EKU Invitational

RICHMOND, KY?The Marshall women?s cross country team finished second behind host Eastern Kentucky Friday at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational.
Led by sophomore Stephanie Eastman?s sixth place finish, the Thundering Herd women placed three runners in the top 10. Eastman?s sixth place finish marks her fourth top 10 finish in four meets for the Herd. The Spencer, WV native finished with a season-and-career best time of 18 minutes and 49 seconds. She was only three-tenths of a second behind fifth place finisher Erica Nichols of Eastern Kentucky.
Juniors Shelby Pride and Sarah Corley finished ninth and tenth, but it wasn?t enough to match EKU?s five top ten finishers in the end. Other placers for the Herd were Varinka Barbini, 15, Lauren Black, 22, Ryann Metheny, 26, and Stephanie Achilles, 31.
On the men?s side, Junior Brent Garrett led the Thundering Herd with a 21st place finish to lead the Thundering Herd to a fifth place finish. Garrett finished with a time of 28 minutes and 21 seconds. Other finishers for Marshall were Jason Pyles, 25, Mike Jones, 31, Greg Howard, 32, Eric Anderson, 35, and David Aronovic, 36.
The cross country teams didn?t compete in the Furman Invitational Saturday as scheduled.
Marshall?s cross country teams have finished all regular season events and are off until Nov. 2 when they travel to Oxford, Ohio to participate in the Mid-American Conference Championships.
