Men's Soccer Falls to Wright State 4-2

Dayton, Ohio-The Marshall University men?s soccer team allowed three first half goals and were unable to recover as they fell to Wright State University 4-2 in action on Saturday, November 2. The loss moves Marshall?s record to 7-9-0 while Wright State improves to 8-9-1 overall.
The Raiders struck early, scoring 33 seconds into the game when forward Ricky Strong took a centering pass from Jon McClain and Bret Jones and fired the ball into the back of the net.
McClain scored the second goal when Brent Alting recorded the assist to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute.
The third goal of the half was scored in the 32nd minute as sophomore Brent Zoller netted a centering pass from freshman Lucas Brewer to put the Raiders on top 3-0.
The game drew closer as Marshall scored its goal on a penalty kick in the 71st minute by Brent Sobczak.
Wright State, however, added a penalty kick of its? own as Zoller was taken down by the goalie and Winston Marshall capitalized to give the Raiders a 4-1 lead.
Marshall added the final goal of the night as Byron Carmichael dribbled around the Raider goalie and put it in the back of the net.
Marshall moves on to face rival West Virginia University on Tuesday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Sam Hood Field. The Thundering Herd have secured the third seed in the Mid-American Conference tournament and will face Northern Illinois University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, at Sam Hood Field.
