Women's Soccer Places Two on Academic All-District Squad

Senior Kelly Kennedy was named academic all-district for the second time in her career.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall?s Lindsey Jayjack and Kelly Kennedy were named Thursday to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II University Division Women?s Soccer First Team. Marshall was one of only three universities in the region to place multiple players on the first team.

Jayjack, a native of Dublin, Ohio, is an accounting major that boasts a 3.88 grade point average. The senior midfielder was Marshall?s second leading scorer on the season with three goals and seven assists. Jayjack has received several academic accolades throughout her career, including winning Marshall?s Cam Henderson Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. She leaves Marshall as its all-time points leader, scoring 18 goals with 25 assists to make 61 points in her career.

A senior health management major, Kennedy has maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA throughout her first three years at MU. The Ft. Wright, Kentucky native was a four year starter and stellar defender for the Herd. Kennedy also has received numerous academic accolades, including the Mid-American Conference Commissioner?s Award and being named second team academic all-district last season.

District II is commonly referred to as the Mid-Atlantic region and consists of institutions in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Herd ended its season last week, finishing with an overall record of 6-9-2 and with a 3-7-2 mark in MAC play.
