ATHENS, Ohio - Steve Esterkamp and Sonny Johnson scored 29 and 26 points respectively, to lead Ohio University to a 94-78 victory over the Thundering Herd in Mid-American Conference basketball action Saturday.

Esterkamp, a junior from Cincinnati, scored a career-high 29 points to go along with his school-record nine steals and career-high six assists.

The pair's offensive output helped the Bobcats (12-6, 7-3 MAC) offset Ronald Blackshear's 30 points for Marshall (10-10, 4-6 MAC).

Blackshear hit 9-of-15 shots from the floor and five of nine shots from behind three-point range. He also recorded seven rebounds. Tamar Slay scored 14, while J.R. VanHoose and Latece William both recorded double-doubles. VanHoose netted 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Williams scored 11 points and recored 11 rebounds.

Ohio shot a deadly 55% from behind the three-point arc in the game, hitting 11 of 20 shots to edge Marshall's 52.4% (11-21).

The Thundering Herd dominated the boards 42-20, however suffered from 22 turnovers. Ohio limited its turnovers to five.

The Bobcats were without the services of leading scorer and rebounder Brandon Hunter, who was suspended for the contest by Ohio head coach Tim O?Shea for a violation of team rules following a loss to Akron on Wednesday.

Marshall will try to get back into the win column Tuesday when it hosts Akron. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
